At I Heart Lesfic, we believe the world could use a bit more kindness after one of the hardest and longest of years. Many authors have signed up to help IHL spread kindness in the world.
Today, the wonderful Anna Ferrara is here to share a story. Also, Anna is giving away 1 ecopy of Snow White and Her Queen 2. Below the guest post, you’ll find more details about the giveaway.
Take it away, Anna.
GOING BANANAS
My partner’s parents come across as strict, no-nonsense and conservative so in the early weeks of our relationship, I was perpetually stressed when in their presence, ever worried they would one day catch wind of what was really going on between their daughter and I and break all hell loose. That, until one time at dinner, in passing, while sitting stiffly while on my absolute best behaviour, I told her mother I ate a single banana for breakfast every morning (it was minimalism and healthy-eating thing).
That night, my partner’s father handed her a bunch of bananas to take home with us. It wasn’t unusual because her parents were always giving her food and things to bring home with her but the next time she went over, she got another bunch of bananas. And the time after that, we got more bananas. Soon, it was like bananas every week. Then, a full year of free bananas. And another year after that. Even after my partner declared she never wanted to eat another banana ever again, we got bananas. In the almost decade since that first bunch of bananas, we have received over 400 bunches of bananas. Free. Weekly. All because I mentioned, once, that I ate bananas.
I still eat one banana every breakfast (because there seems to be no getting rid of them these days). But I’m no longer petrified of my partner’s parents. Nowadays when I think of them, the first thing that comes to mind is bananas. The next thing is kindness. And sometimes when I catch sight of my partner at home in pyjamas, I tell her she looks like a banana. Without fail, she will tell me I look like a banana too. We now call ourselves B1 and B2.
GIVEAWAY
by Anna Ferrara
Before there was Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, there were two other stories some preferred not to tell… One year after leaving the North behind, Queen Katherine and Princess Eirwen struggle with new troubles—a cinder dust covered apprentice who brings to Eirwen something Katherine can never give and an old acquaintance of Katherine who has taken to calling them “beasts”. When desire brings out the worst in all of them, Eirwen and Katherine have to seek creative ways to get to that happily ever after they once thought possible, before it slips out of their reach forever and always.
