TODAY’S ANGEL

About six years ago, I was walking to the store, which was in a small strip mall. At one end was a used bookstore, and I saw an older woman, easily in her seventies or eighties, trying to pull about four tied grocery sacks full of books out of the backseat of her car.

I was about to walk by her, figured best to mind my own business, when something told me to stop. So, I doubled back and walked up to this woman, who was fairly skittish, and asked if I could help her. She said yes, so I grabbed all four bags of books and loaded myself up.

She led the way to the used bookstore, pulling the door open for me. I unloaded the bags on the counter inside and was about to leave when the old woman stopped me. She said words to me that I never forgot, and use, myself now:

“Everyday I look for an angel in my day. Today you were that angel.”

We can all be somebody’s angel every single day.

FINDING FAITH

Faith Fitzgerald thought that if she got an education and became a high-powered attorney in Manhattan, maybe—just maybe—she’d gain the attention and respect of her absentee father. Kim Pritekel was born and raised in Colorado, where she still lives.

She began writing at the age of 9, and has more then twenty titles in publication.

She’s also a screenwriter and film director.
